The Black Diamond Contact Anti-Balling System (ABS) reduces snow pilling underneath your Contact crampons allowing a more secure placement, as well as making travel much easier. The patent-pending Contact ABS provides a durable, secure way of inhibiting snow balling. Dual-density plates screw on easily, are super secure, and can handle the abuse of glacial talus far better than a traditional solid plate.

They work. Period.
Very easy to install (10 min) on BD contact
crampons (from the 2004 winter/spring season). I went on a night climb with them
and never had to worry about snow bunching up between the spikes. Contact with
snow and ice was great!
