The low-cut Scarpa Lite Ascent is likely the most technical of all the light approach shoes we carry at Backcountry.com. Cloaked in the suede upper of a casual walking shoe, the Lite Ascents also serve dutifully for light hikes, bouldering, and easy climbs. It is true active-leisure footwear designed for a broad range of mountain enthusiast. With similar technical construction as a stiff climbing boot, the Lite Ascents excel at scrambling on rocky terrain, smearing on slopers, and edging on small protrusions. Lite Ascents afford awesome lateral stability, and a healthy surface area on the Vibram sole ensures superb contact and grip with rock. Though they're fitted for performance, there's a high toe box to give your toes a bit of wiggle room for more comfortable, controlled descents.

The Scarpa Lite Ascents are an awesome approach shoe cloaked in the suede upper of a casual walker that also dutifully serve for light hikes, bouldering and easy climbs.
Worth It
These shoes have great traction, I use them mainly for
hiking in the mountains and canyoneering (I've used them frequently for ~3
months now). I was particularly pleased with the comfort they provided on long
steep decents, most shoes I've used don't do so well in that respect. Like most
shoes, they did require a break-in period and are best in warm/dry conditions.
As far as fit goes, I like how they don't have excessive girth on the sides, it
gives foot placement a more natural feel (they can fit where your shoeless foot
ought to), thus makes adjustment to them effortless. The soles are rather stiff,
but I grew to really like that in this shoe, they were certainly more versatile
on the rock.
A Getaway shoe for all occasions
Let's say you are
walking down a seemingly harmless trail, when again let's say, a boulder comes
tumbling down and itÆs coming straight for you... This is the shoe to get you
off from where you're standing, and run like hell. Or perhaps, you're sporting
casual attire on a weekend afternoon, and it's a boring day, because you have a
lot of errands? Your Scarpa Lite Ascent are feeling comfortable and the blue
suede goes with your threads. Add an iPod to this equation and you just found
the secret to happiness. But let's just say, from out of nowhere, a rabid
woodchuck comes flying out of the corner of an alley, and you have one second to
move it in gear. No sweat. YouÆre able to hop a trashcan, grab the fence, scoot
up and across, and finally jump down to safety. No woodchuck, it's that kind of
shoe. You might easily find yourself at the office with this shoe. Hell it can
go with your golf shirt, but why would you? But for whatever attire you choose,
these shoes will maneuver you on any corporate blessed floor covering with ease
and comfort. Even when you need to sprint down the back stairwell, jumping a few
steps along the way. Just because you decided to beat your coworker coming down
the elevator.
The inverted swoosh
These shoes have a narrow
front and I thought they wouldn't work out at first, being that I have a wide
foot. However, after wearing them in for a week or so they have formed to my
feet rather well. Very sturdy shoes with an anti-nike appeal.
Blue
Suede Shoes
Every time I wear my Scarpa Lite Ascents my 3-year old daughter
says, in repetition, "I like your blue shoes." Complete strangers tell me the
same thing (but usually only once) and ask me where I bought them. I so enjoy
beating the metro pavement in my blue suedes that I forget these shoes were
really designed to be an all-around backcountry cruiser. I might take them off
the pavement some day (as long as they don't get dirty).

Stylish shoe with good sticky rubber and supportively strong Vibram
sole. It looks as good as an approach shoe can. It takes a few weeks to wear in
and become comfortable (like any hiking shoe). So far I like it, but still
haven't had it on rock.
